Bread and butter pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 3/4 c
- water - 1 c
- vinegar - 1 c
- ginger - 1/2 tsp
- celery seed - 1/2 tsp
- medium onions - 3 item
- medium cucumbers - 5 item
- mustard seed - 1/2 tsp
- turmeric - 1/4 tsp
- salt or less - 1/4 c
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Wash cucumbers; do not peel. Cut in thin slices. Peel and wash onions. Combine onions and cucumbers. Add salt and let stand 2 hours. Drain. Heat vinegar, water, celery seed, mustard seed, sugar, ginger and turmeric to boiling. Add cucumbers and onions; boil slowly until tender. Pack in freshly sterilized jars while hot.
