  • sugar - 3/4 c
  • salt - 1/4 c
  • water - 1 c
  • vinegar - 1 c
  • ginger - 1/2 tsp
  • dry mustard - 1/2 tsp
  • celery seed - 1/2 tsp
  • medium onions - 3 item
  • medium cucumbers - 5 item
  • turmeric - 1/4 tsp

How to make bread and butter pickles:

Wash and slice cucumbers and onions. Combine with salt and cover with ice. Let stand for 3 hours. Mix vinegar, water, sugar and spices. Drain cucumbers and onions. Add to vinegar mixture. Heat slowly to scald. Do not boil! Seal in jars. Wait 48 hours before opening.
