  • butter or margarine - 1/2 lb
  • stick margarine - 1 item
  • vanilla flavoring - 1 tsp
  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • plain flour - 3 c
  • finely chopped walnuts - 1 c
  • chopped black walnuts - 1 c
  • box powdered sugar - 1 item
  • rum flavoring - 1 tsp
  • eggs, added one at a time - 5 item
  • Mix flour and baking powder, alternate adding to mixture with milk

How to make black walnut pound cake:

Cream butter and shortening, add sugar and eggs, one at a time. Mix flour and baking powder, alternate adding to mixture with milk. Add flavoring and walnuts. Bake in tube pan at 325° for 80 minutes.

Edna ices her cake with the Cream Cheese Icing:Cream Cheese Icing:3 oz. cream cheese1 stick margarine1 Tbsp. vanilla1 box powdered sugar1/4 c. milk1 c. finely chopped walnuts Cream the cream cheese and butter; add flavoring, sugar and milk. Add nuts to icing.
