Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- buttermilk - 1/2 c
- baking powder
- baking soda - 1/2 tsp
- all-purpose flour - 3/4 c
- butter, melted - 1/3 c
- cornmeal - 1 c
- large egg, lightly beaten - 1 item
- drops hot pepper sauce optional - 4 item
- chopped green onions about 2 - 1/4 c
How to make baked hush puppies:
Preheat oven to 425°. Combine cornmeal, flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a medium bowl; mix well. Add buttermilk, onions, egg and hot pepper sauce, if desired; stir until mixed. Generously butter a 9-inch square baking dish. Shape dough into 16 balls, about 1 heaping tablespoon each. Roll balls in melted butter; place in prepared dish. Pour remaining butter over dough balls in dish. Bake until lightly browned and thoroughly baked in the center, 15 to 18 minutes. Serve warm.Recipe categories: Breads, Quick breads, Muffins.
