- sifted flour
- sugar - 2 c
- baking powder - 1/4 tsp
- soda
- salt
- cinnamon - 3/4 tsp
- cloves - 1/2 tsp
- allspice - 1/2 tsp
- soft shortening - 1/2 c
- water - 1/3 c
- walnuts, cut up - 1/2 c
- raisins, cut up - 1 c
- applesauce
- scant baking powder - 1/4 tsp
How to make applesauce cake:
9-Inch Square:1 2/3 c. sifted flour1 1/3 c. sugar1/4 tsp. (scant) baking powder1 tsp. soda1 tsp. salt1/2 tsp. cinnamon1/3 tsp. cloves1/3 tsp. allspice1/3 c. soft shortening1/3 c. water1/3 c. walnuts, cut up2/3 c. raisins, cut up1 c. applesauce1 egg (1/4 c.) Grease and flour pans. Sift together first eight ingredients. Add shortening, water, walnuts and raisins. Beat 2 minutes. Add applesauce and egg. Beat another 2 minutes. Pour into prepared pans. Bake in moderate oven at 350° for 45 to 50 minutes for oblong cake or 35 to 40 minutes for square pan.Recipe categories: Desserts, Cakes, Low cholesterol.
