Apple pie filling
Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- salt - 1 tsp
- cornstarch - 1 c
- water - 10 c
- lemon juice - 3 Tbsp
- ground cinnamon - 2 tsp
- ground nutmeg - 1/4 tsp
- tart apples, peeled and sliced
- or 3 drops yellow food coloring - 2 item
How to make apple pie filling:
Put first 4 ingredients in large saucepan. Add 1 teaspoon salt. Stir in 10 cups water and cook and stir until thick and bubbly. Add lemon juice and food coloring. Pack apples into hot jars, leaving 1-inch headspace. Add hot syrup to 1/2-inch from top. Use spatula to help distribute syrup. Adjust lids. Process in boiling water bath (pints for 15 minutes and quarts for 20 minutes). Use 1 quart apple filling in pie crust. Add top crust. Cut slits (so steam can escape) and seal edges.
