  • sugar - 1 c
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • butter - 2 Tbsp
  • hot water - 1 Tbsp
  • lemon juice - 2 tsp
  • grated rind of 1/2 lemon
  • cinnamon or nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
  • or 8 sour apples - 6 item
  • recipe rich 1 crust pie pastry - 1 item

How to make apple pandowdy:

Combine sugar, salt and cinnamon. Pare and core cut apples into eights. Place in deep baking dish. Add sugar mixture, lemon rind, lemon juice and water. Dot with butter. Cover with pie crust. Bake in preheated 350° oven for 1 hour or until apples are tender.

Slow baking gives apples rich color. May serve with cream or ice cream or hard sauce.
