Ingredients/Components
- each pkg - 2 oz
- warm water - 1/4 c
- warm buttermilk - 2 c
- flour - 5 c
- sugar - 1/3 c
- baking powder - 1 Tbsp
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- salt - 2 tsp
- shortening - 1 c
- melted butter - 1 item
How to make angel biscuits:
Dissolve yeast in warm water. Let stand five minutes. Stir in buttermilk; set aside. In large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until resembles coarse meal. Stir in yeast-buttermilk mixture. Mix well.Turn out on lightly floured surface. Knead lightly 3 to 4 times. Roll to a 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with a 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter.
Place on a lightly greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise in a warm place about 1 1/2 hours. Bake at 450° for 8 to 10 minutes. Brush with melted butter. Makes 2 1/2 dozen biscuits.
