Amish friendship bread and starter
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- cinnamon - 1 tsp
- eggs - 3 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- milk - 1 c
- oil
- self-rising flour - 1 c
- nuts or raisins
- large box or 2 small instant puddings - 1 item
How to make amish friendship bread and starter:
Bread:2/3 c. oil2 c. self-rising flour1/2 c. sugar3 eggs1 tsp. cinnamon1 tsp. vanilla1 large box or 2 small instant puddings1 1/2 c. nuts or raisins To begin Starter, mix together flour, sugar and milk. Let stand on cabinet for 5 days. Stir each day. Do not use a metal spoon and do not refrigerate. Do place in a glass bowl or a jar with a lid. After the first 5 days, the fun begins.Day 1: Do nothing.
Day 2, 3 and 4: Stir with wooden spoon
Day 5: Add flour, sugar and milk and stir with a wooden spoon.
Day 10: Add flour, sugar and milk. Stir with a wooden spoon.
Pour 1 cup each into 3 glass jars and give to 3 friends with a set of instructions. (If you want a new Starter for yourself, keep one of the three Starters.)
To remaining batter, add bread ingredients. Pour into 2 loaf pans or one 13 x 9-inch pan and bake at 350° for 40 to 50 minutes or until done. Cool 10 minutes before removing from pans.
This makes a great banana nut bread or date nut bread. You can vary the flavor of the pudding, nuts and fruit to make different types of bread.
