Ingredients/Components
- water
- garlic powder - 1 tsp
- bay leaf - 1 item
- ketchup - 2 Tbsp
- ground cumin - 1/2 tsp
- large onion, chopped - 1 item
- can kidney beans, drained - 1 item
- dried red pepper flakes - 1/4 tsp
- slices bacon, diced - 4 item
- can pinto beans, drained - 1 item
- dry lentils, cook until tender - 1/3 c
- can whole tomatoes, chopped, and liquid - 1 item
How to make western beans:
Lightly fry bacon. Add onion and saute, drain. In large pot, mix rest of ingredients. Cook slowly, stirring once or twice. Remove bay leaf before serving. May be prepared ahead of time, refrigerated and reheated before serving. Serves 10 to 12.Recipe categories: Weeknight, Side dish, Beans.
