Ingredients/Components
- water
- garlic powder - 1 tsp
- chili powder - 3/4 tsp
- bay leaf - 1 item
- ketchup - 2 Tbsp
- ground cumin - 1/2 tsp
- large onion, chopped - 1 item
- dry lentils - 1/3 c
- can kidney beans, drained - 1 oz
- dried red pepper flakes - 1/4 tsp
- bacon strips, diced - 4 item
- can pinto beans, drained - 1 oz
- can whole tomatoes with liquid, chopped - 1 oz
How to make western beans:
Lightly fry bacon in a heavy, 3-quart saucepan. Add onion; cook until transparent. Stir in remaining ingredients; cook over medium heat for 45 minutes, or until lentils are tender, stirring once or twice. Remove bay leaf before serving.
