Waikiki meatballs
Ingredients/Components
- milk - 1/4 c
- salt
- cornstarch - 2 Tbsp
- egg - 1 item
- vinegar - 1/3 c
- shortening - 1 Tbsp
- ginger - 1/4 tsp
- brown sugar, packed - 1/2 c
- soy sauce - 1 Tbsp
- chopped green pepper - 1/3 c
- cracker crumbs - 2/3 c
- minced onion - 1/3 c
- can pineapple tidbits, drained save syrup - 1 1/2
- ground beef chuck or round
How to make waikiki meatballs:
Mix thoroughly beef, crumbs, onion, egg, salt, ginger and milk. Shape mixture by rounded tablespoonfuls into balls. Melt shortening in large skillet. Brown and cook meatballs. Keep warm.Pour fat from skillet. Mix cornstarch and sugar. Stir in reserved pineapple syrup, vinegar and soy sauce until smooth. Pour into skillet. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture thickens and boils. Stir 1 minute. Add meatballs, pineapple tidbits and green pepper. Heat through.
