Torta rustica
Ingredients/Components
- Egg - 1 item
- Ricotta Cheese - 8 oz
- Sweet Italian Sausage - 1 lb
- Mozzarella Cheese Shredded - 8 oz
- Jars Pimentos Drained, Sliced - 2 oz
- Ready made 9-inch Pie Crusts - 2 item
- Basil or Oregano - 1 tsp
How to make torta rustica:
1. Remove casing fron sausage and brown (crumble), and drain on paper towel. 2. Separate egg, mix yoke with ricotta cheese and basil or oregano. Roll first pie crust to fit 9-inch pie plate. 3. Sprinkle 1/2 mozzarella, 1/2 sausage, all pimentos, all ricotta cheese mixture, then 1/2 sausage, 1/2 the mozzarella. 4. Roll second pie crust to fit top. Use pastry brush to brush top of pie crust with egg whites. Bake at 375° for 25 minutes.
