Ingredients/Components

  • brown sugar - 1/4 c
  • cornstarch - 2 Tbsp
  • vinegar - 1/4 c
  • soy sauce - 1 Tbsp
  • salt optional - 1/2 tsp
  • thinly sliced onion - 1/4 c
  • chicken bouillon cube - 1 item
  • can pineapple chunks - 1 oz
  • medium green pepper, cut into strips - 1 item
  • lean pork, cubed
  • hot, cooked rice - 1 item
  • shortening I use Pam instead - 2 Tbsp

How to make sweet and sour pork:

Brown pork in shortening or Pam. Add 1 cup water, bouillon cube and 1/4 teaspoon salt; mix well. Cover and simmer until tender, about 1 hour. Meanwhile, drain pineapple, reserving syrup. Combine brown sugar and cornstarch; add reserved pineapple syrup, vinegar, soy sauce and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened. Remove from heat; add sauce and pork. Mix well. Stir in pineapple, green pepper and onion. Cook about 3 minutes more or until vegetables are tender. Serve over hot rice. Makes 6 servings.
