Sweet and sour pork
Ingredients/Components
- brown sugar - 1/4 c
- cornstarch - 2 Tbsp
- vinegar - 1/4 c
- soy sauce - 1 Tbsp
- salt optional - 1/2 tsp
- thinly sliced onion - 1/4 c
- chicken bouillon cube - 1 item
- can pineapple chunks - 1 oz
- medium green pepper, cut into strips - 1 item
- lean pork, cubed
- hot, cooked rice - 1 item
- shortening I use Pam instead - 2 Tbsp
How to make sweet and sour pork:
Brown pork in shortening or Pam. Add 1 cup water, bouillon cube and 1/4 teaspoon salt; mix well. Cover and simmer until tender, about 1 hour. Meanwhile, drain pineapple, reserving syrup. Combine brown sugar and cornstarch; add reserved pineapple syrup, vinegar, soy sauce and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened. Remove from heat; add sauce and pork. Mix well. Stir in pineapple, green pepper and onion. Cook about 3 minutes more or until vegetables are tender. Serve over hot rice. Makes 6 servings.Taken from R.MT Magazine.
