  • sugar
  • cinnamon - 2 tsp
  • butter - 1 c
  • water - 1 Tbsp
  • soda - 2 tsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • ginger - 1 tsp
  • sifted flour
  • dark corn syrup - 2 Tbsp
  • cloves - 1/2 tsp
  • grated orange peel
  • blanched almonds - 1 item

How to make swedish ginger cookies:

Thoroughly cream butter and sugar. Add egg and beat until light and fluffy. Add orange peel, corn syrup and water; mix well. Sift together dry ingredients; stir into creamed mixture. Chill dough thoroughly.

On lightly floured surface, roll to 1/8-inch. Cut in desired shapes. (For sparkly look, sprinkle rolled dough with sugar, then press it in lightly with a rolling pin.) Place one inch apart on cookie sheet. Top each cookie with blanched almond half. Bake 5 to 8 minutes at 350° or until golden brown and crisp. Cool on rack.
