Ingredients/Components

  • bacon, cut into 3/4-inch pieces about 10 slices - 1/2 lb
  • hamburger meat - 1/2 lb
  • water - 2 c
  • uncooked regular rice - 1 c
  • chopped green pepper - 2/3 c
  • can stewed tomatoes - 1 oz
  • chili powder - 1 tsp
  • dried oregano leaves - 1/2 tsp
  • salt
  • pepper - 1/8 tsp

How to make spanish rice:

Fry bacon until crisp; drain on paper towels. Cook and stir hamburger and onion in a 10-inch skillet until hamburger is light brown; drain. Stir in bacon and remaining ingredients. Heat to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, until rice is tender, about 30 minutes. (Add small amount of water during cooking if necessary.) Makes 6 servings.
