Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1 tsp
  • margarine - 2 Tbsp
  • beaten eggs - 2 item
  • garlic powder - 1/2 tsp
  • low-fat cottage cheese - 1 c
  • chopped onion - 1/2 c
  • Parmesan cheese - 1/3 c
  • chopped green pepper - 1/4 c
  • can tomato paste - 1 oz
  • grated Mozzarella - 1/2 c
  • dried oregano - 1 tsp
  • ground beef or sausage - 1 lb
  • cooked, drained spaghetti noodles - 6 oz
  • stewed tomatoes, cut - 1 c

How to make spaghetti pie:

Stir margarine into hot spaghetti. Add Parmesan cheese and eggs. Form mixture into a "crust" and press into 10-inch pie plate sprayed with nonstick spray. Spread cottage cheese in bottom of crust. Cook meat with onion and pepper. Drain off fat. Stir in undrained tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, oregano and garlic and heat through.

For shortcut, use bottled spaghetti sauce in place of these ingredients. Turn meat mixture into crust. Bake, uncovered in a 350° oven for 20 minutes. Sprinkle Mozzarella cheese on top and bake 5 minutes longer. Makes 6 servings.
