Southern spoon bread

Ingredients/Components

• eggs, separated - 2 item
• tsp salt - 1 item
• c milk - 1 item
• cups boiling water - 2 item
• T shortening - 1 item
• c white corn meal - 1 item

How to make southern spoon bread:

Mix water, corn meal, salt and shortening. Cool. Add milk and beaten egg yolks; mix well. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Pour into greased baking dish and bake in hot oven (400°) for 30 to 40 minutes. Serve from dish. Serves 6 to 8.
