Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- vanilla - 1/2 tsp
- butter or margarine - 2 Tbsp
- salt - 1 tsp
- cornstarch - 1/4 c
- egg, slightly beaten - 1 item
- water - 1/2 c
- almond extract - 1/2 tsp
- vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- all-purpose flour
- plus 2 Tbsp - 1 c
- bag frozen unsweetened pitted red tart cherries 4 c - 1 (20
- or 2 drops red food color - 1 item
How to make sour cherry pie:
Crust:3 c. all-purpose flour1 Tbsp. sugar1 tsp. salt1 c. plus 2 Tbsp. Crisco1/2 c. water1 egg, slightly beaten1 Tbsp. vinegar Filling: Combine sugar and cornstarch in medium saucepan. Stir in cherries gently. Cook and stir on medium or medium-high about 10 minutes or until mixture comes to a boil and is thickened and clear. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla, almond extract, butter and red food color if used. Cool 1 hour. Make pie dough for 2 crust pie. Spoon filling into unbaked pie shell and apply top crust.
