Ingredients/Components

  • packed brown sugar - 1/2 c
  • water - 1 c
  • caraway seed - 2 tsp
  • large onion, chopped - 1 item
  • apples, peeled and quartered - 2 item
  • sauerkraut, undrained - 1 can
  • mild Italian sausage links, cut into 1-inch slices - 1 lb

How to make sauerkraut casserole:

In a skillet cook sausage and onion until sausage is brown and onion is tender. Drain. Stir in apples, sauerkraut, water, brown sugar and caraway seed. Transfer to a 2 to 2 1/2-quart baking dish. Cover and bake at 350° for 1 hour. Garnish with parsley, if desired. Yields 6 to 8 servings.
