Ingredients/Components

  • sugar
  • eggs - 3 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • flour
  • water - 1 c
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • cocoa - 1/2 c
  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • pinch of salt - 1 item
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • finely cut sauerkraut - 1/2 c

How to make sauerkraut cake:

Sift dry ingredients. Cream sugar, shortening and vanilla; add eggs, one at a time. Add water alternately with dry ingredients to egg and sugar mixture. Stir in sauerkraut. Bake in greased and floured 9 x 13 x 2-inch pan for 35 to 45 minutes at 375°.
