Ingredients/Components
- shortening - 1/2 c
- sugar
- eggs - 2 item
- hot water - 1 c
- cocoa - 1/2 c
- flour
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- soda - 1 tsp
- baking powder - 1 tsp
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- Icing:1 egg white, beaten
- cream of tartar - 1/8 tsp
- water - 3 tsp
How to make midnight cake:
Icing:1 egg white, beaten3/4 c. sugar1/8 tsp. cream of tartar3 tsp. water1 tsp. vanilla Cake: Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs; mix well. Dissolve cocoa in hot water and add to mixture. Add all other ingredients and mix well. Bake at 350° about 30 minutes.Icing: Beat egg whites until stiff. Cook sugar, water, vanilla and cream of tartar in saucepan until it spins a hair. Pour over egg white, beating all the time until creamy.
