  • sugar
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • milk - 1 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour
  • butter - 1 c
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • cocoa - 2 tsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • red food coloring - 2 oz

How to make red velvet cake:

Icing:3 Tbsp. flour1 c. milk1 c. sugar1 tsp. vanilla1 c. butter Cream together butter and sugar. Add eggs and food coloring. Beat. Sift together cocoa, flour and salt. Add alternately with buttermilk. Add vanilla. Fold in soda (do not beat). Bake in 2 (9-inch) cake pans (buttered) at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes. Cool and then ice.

Icing: Cook flour and milk in double boiler and stir until mixture is like custard. Put lid on and cool. While cooling, cream sugar, vanilla and butter. Combine with custard and beat until smooth and fluffy. Serves 12.
