Red velvet cake
Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- milk - 1 c
- butter or margarine - 1/2 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour - 2 c
- cocoa - 3 Tbsp
- baking powder - 2 tsp
- baking soda - 1/2 tsp
- vinegar - 1 tsp
- large eggs - 2 item
- bottles red food coloring - 3 oz
How to make red velvet cake:
Cream butter or margarine and sugar together. Add eggs and mix well. In a small bowl, make a paste with cocoa and red food coloring. Add this to the mixture. Mix well. Mix salt, vanilla and milk. Add flour a little at a time alternately with the milk mixture; mix well. Mix vinegar and baking soda in a small bowl, then add this to cake mixture. Mix well; do not beat.Pour into 2 round greased and lightly dusted (with flour) pans. Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes. When cake is cool, slice each layer in half to end up with four layers. Ice each layer with the recipe for Italian Whipped Cream Icing.
