- vanilla - 1 tsp
- milk - 1 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour - 2 c
- soda - 1 tsp
- cocoa - 1 Tbsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- powdered sugar - 1 c
- Crisco - 1/2 c
- red food coloring - 2 oz
- Add soda, vinegar, vanilla and food coloring; mix well, then add buttermilk alternately with flour
How to make red velvet cake:
Cream the sugar, Crisco, eggs, salt and cocoa. Add soda, vinegar, vanilla and food coloring; mix well, then add buttermilk alternately with flour. Bake in 3 layers (greased and floured pans) for 25 to 30 minutes at 350°.Frosting:2 Tbsp. flour1/2 tsp. salt1 c. milk1 c. Crisco1 tsp. vanilla1 c. powdered sugar Cook first 3 ingredients until thick; set aside to cool. Cream remaining ingredients; add to cooled flour mixture. Beat until like whipped cream.
