  • soda - 1 tsp
  • cocoa - 1 Tbsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • vinegar - 1 Tbsp
  • stick butter - 1 item
  • plain flour
  • Crisco - 1/2 c
  • red food coloring - 2 oz
  • Make paste of coloring and cocoa

How to make red velvet cake:

Cream sugar, Crisco and eggs. Make paste of coloring and cocoa. Add to mixture. Add salt, flour, buttermilk and vanilla. Beat. Fold in vinegar and soda. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Put into 2 layer cake pans.Icing:1 box confectioners sugar1 stick butter1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese1 tsp. vanilla Mix together and ice cooled cake layers.
