Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- eggs - 2 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- milk - 1 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour
- cocoa - 2 Tbsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- baking powder - 1 tsp
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- shortening - 1/2 c
- red food color - 1 oz
- butter flavor - 1 tsp
- Make paste of cocoa and food coloring; add to first batch
How to make red velvet cake:
Cream shortening, sugar, eggs, vanilla, butter flavor, flour, buttermilk and salt. Make paste of cocoa and food coloring; add to first batch. Mix soda and vinegar in small bowl and add to batter. Blend in baking powder. Pour into greased and floured cake pan. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes at 350°.Red Velvet Cake Icing:3 Tbsp. flour1/2 tsp. salt1 c. milk1 c. shortening1 c. sugar2 tsp. vanilla1/2 tsp. butter flavor Cook milk, flour and salt until thick.
