Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 2 c
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • pkg - 8 oz
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • cocoa - 1 tsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • vegetable oil
  • vinegar - 1 tsp
  • stick butter - 1 item
  • plain flour
  • pecans - 1 c
  • Add eggs
  • bottle red food coloring - 1 oz

How to make red velvet cake:

Cream the sugar and oil. Add eggs. Mix vinegar, red food coloring and cocoa. Pour into mixture. Blend. Alternate flour and buttermilk when adding to mixture. Add soda, salt and vanilla. Bake in three 8-inch well-greased pans at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes. Frost with icing.Icing:1 box powdered sugar1 stick butter1 c. pecans8 oz. pkg. cream cheese1 tsp. vanilla Blend together the sugar, butter, cream cheese and vanilla until smooth. Add pecans.
