Pepper steak
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour - 1/4 c
- water
- shortening - 1 item
- pepper - 1/8 tsp
- clove garlic, minced - 1 item
- Worcestershire sauce
- chopped onion - 1/2 c
- hot cooked rice - 3 c
- can tomatoes - 1 oz
- beef flavored gravy base - 1 Tbsp
- beef round steak
- large green peppers, cut in strips - 2 item
How to make pepper steak:
Cut steak in 1/2-inch strips; coat with mixture of flour, salt and pepper. Brown strips in hot shortening. Drain tomatoes, reserving liquid. To meat, add tomato liquid, water, onion, garlic and gravy base; cover and simmer about 1 1/4 hours or until meat is tender. Uncover; stir in Worcestershire sauce. Add green peppers. Cover and simmer 5 minutes. If gravy is too thin, combine 1 to 2 tablespoons flour with equal amount of cold water and stir until thick and bubbly. Add drained tomatoes, cut up. Cook 5 minutes.
