Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour - 1/4 c
  • water
  • shortening - 1 item
  • pepper - 1/8 tsp
  • clove garlic, minced - 1 item
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • chopped onion - 1/2 c
  • hot cooked rice - 3 c
  • can tomatoes - 1 oz
  • beef flavored gravy base - 1 Tbsp
  • beef round steak
  • large green peppers, cut in strips - 2 item

How to make pepper steak:

Cut steak in 1/2-inch strips; coat with mixture of flour, salt and pepper. Brown strips in hot shortening. Drain tomatoes, reserving liquid. To meat, add tomato liquid, water, onion, garlic and gravy base; cover and simmer about 1 1/4 hours or until meat is tender. Uncover; stir in Worcestershire sauce. Add green peppers. Cover and simmer 5 minutes. If gravy is too thin, combine 1 to 2 tablespoons flour with equal amount of cold water and stir until thick and bubbly. Add drained tomatoes, cut up. Cook 5 minutes. Serve with rice.
