- pkg - 1 oz
- milk
- salt - 1 tsp
- butter - 3 Tbsp
- nutmeg - 1/8 tsp
- eggs, beaten - 2 item
- grated Parmesan cheese - 1/4 c
- can tomato sauce - 1/2 oz
- hamburger - 3/4 lb
- shredded Mozzarella cheese - 1/4 c
- small onion, chopped - 1 item
How to make pasticcio:
Cook macaroni as directed on package; drain. While macaroni is cooking, cook and stir hamburger and onion until beef is brown. Drain fat. Stir in tomato sauce and salt. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, until liquid is almost absorbed, about 8 minutes. Spread half of macaroni in greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch baking dish. Cover with hamburger mixture. Mix 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese and the nutmeg; sprinkle over beef mixture. Cover with remaining macaroni.Cook and stir milk and butter in saucepan until butter is melted. Remove from heat. Stir in at least 1/2 of the milk mixture gradually into beaten eggs. Mix back into milk mixture in pan; spoon over macaroni. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese and 1/4 cup Mozzarella cheese. Cook, uncovered, in a 350° oven until bubbly, 30 to 35 minutes. Makes 4 servings.
Recipe can be doubled, using a 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
