Orange sponge cake
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- eggs, separated - 4 item
- pinch of salt - 1 item
- melted butter - 1 Tbsp
- sifted cake flour - 1 c
- cream of tartar - 1/4 tsp
- orange juice - 1/4 c
- juice and rind of 1 orange, grated
- Gradually add sugar, salt, flour, juice and rind
How to make orange sponge cake:
Beat egg yolks until light and fluffy. Gradually add sugar, salt, flour, juice and rind. Beat egg whites with cream of tartar until very stiff. Fold into first mixture. Bake in ungreased tube pan at 325° for 1 hour. When removed from oven, invert pan on bottle to cool.Orange Icing:2 c. powdered sugar1/4 c. orange juice1 Tbsp. melted butter Place over hot water for 10 minutes, then beat.
