Orange spice cake
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- vanilla - 1/2 tsp
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour - 2 c
- soda - 1 tsp
- baking powder - 1 tsp
- shortening - 1/4 c
- nuts - 1 c
- powdered sugar - 1/3 c
- egg, beaten - 1 item
- oranges - 2 item
- sour milk - 1 c
- golden raisins - 1 c
- mixed nutmeg, cinnamon and allspice - 2 tsp
How to make orange spice cake:
Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs and vanilla. Add dry ingredients alternately with sour milk. Grind whole oranges, removing seeds, grind nuts and raisins. Mix with oranges. Reserve 3/4 cup of mixture, add rest to cake batter. Pour into greased 13 x 9-inch flat baking pan. Bake in preheated 350° oven 35 to 40 minutes. Blend reserved orange mixture with 1/3 cup powdered sugar.Top hot cake with orange mixture. Can be put under broiler for a few minutes to toast or lightly brown.
