Old fashioned rhubarb cake
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/3 c
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- milk
- butter or margarine - 1/2 c
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- egg - 1 item
- all-purpose flour - 2 c
- ground cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
- sugar, divided
- chopped rhubarb - 2 c
How to make old fashioned rhubarb cake:
Milk Topping:1 1/2 c. milk1/3 c. sugar1 tsp. vanilla In a mixing bowl cream butter and 1 cup sugar. Add egg; beat well. Combine buttermilk and vanilla; set aside.Combine flour, baking soda and salt; add alternately with buttermilk/vanilla to the creamed mixture. Stir in rhubarb. Spread in a greased 13 x 9-inch baking pan. Combine the remaining sugar with cinnamon; sprinkle over batter. Bake at 350° for 35 minutes or until done.
For topping, combine all ingredients; pour over individual squares.
