Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour
  • baking powder - 1 Tbsp
  • warm water
  • lard - 1 c
  • chopped onions - 1 2
  • hamburger
  • salt to taste - 1 item
  • powdered milk - 2 Tbsp
  • clove garlic, mashed - 1 item
  • to 2 cans chopped green chilies - 1 item
  • cooked pinto beans with juice - 4 c

How to make navajo tacos:

Fry Bread:4 c. flour1 Tbsp. baking powder2 Tbsp. powdered milk1 1/2 c. warm water1 c. lard1 tsp. salt Green Chili Beans: Fry meat; add onions and fry. Add chilies, salt and garlic. Remove excess fat. Cook for 5 minutes. Add beans with juice to meat mixture. Simmer 10 minutes.

Fry Bread: Put flour in a bowl. Add baking powder and salt. Add powdered milk. Mix all together. Pour warm water and mix. Mix it with your hands until soft. Then take a ball of soft dough, pat back and forth and pull until flat and round.

Melt lard in pan. Put it in hot fat. Turn until brown on both sides.

Serve Green Chili Beans on top of Fry Bread. Top with shredded Cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and onions.
