Nanaimo bars
Ingredients/Components
- graham cracker crumbs
- sugar - 1/4 c
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- coconut - 1 c
- powdered sugar - 2 c
- whipping cream - 3 Tbsp
- egg, beaten - 1 item
- sq
- cocoa powder - 5 Tbsp
- unsalted butter - 1/2 c
- finely chopped almonds - 1/2 c
- unsalted butter room temperature
How to make nanaimo bars:
Middle Layer:1/2 c. unsalted butter (room temperature)3 Tbsp. whipping cream1 tsp. vanilla2 c. powdered sugar Bottom Layer:4 (4 oz.) sq. semi-sweet chocolate2 Tbsp. whipping cream Bottom: Melt butter, sugar and cocoa in top of double boiler. Add egg and stir constantly until thickened, about 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from heat. Stir in crumbs, coconut and almonds. Press firmly into ungreased 8 x 8-inch pan. Refrigerate while preparing middle layer.Middle: Cream butter, whipping cream, vanilla and powdered sugar together. Beat until light. Spread over bottom layer and refrigerate while preparing top layer.
Top: Melt chocolate and butter over low heat. Cool. When cool, but still liquid, pour over second layer. Chill for 15 minutes; then cut into bars. May be frozen.
