  • sugar - 1/3 c
  • cream of tartar - 1/2 tsp
  • butter, melted - 1/2 c
  • lime juice - 1/2 c
  • can Eagle Brand milk - 1 item
  • few drops green food coloring - 1 item
  • grated lime rind optional - 2 3
  • baked 8 or 9-inch pastry shell, cooled use Oreo crust - 1 item
  • eggs, separated reserve 3 whites for meringue - 4 item
  • In medium bowl, beat egg yolks; stir in milk, lime juice, rind and food coloring

How to make key lime pie:

Preheat oven to 350°. In medium bowl, beat egg yolks; stir in milk, lime juice, rind and food coloring. In small bowl, stiffly beat one egg white; fold into milk mixture. Turn into shell. Beat reserved egg whites with cream of tartar until foamy; gradually add sugar, beating until stiff but not dry. Spread meringue on top of pie, sealing carefully to edge of shell. Bake 15 minutes or until meringue is golden brown. Cool. Chill before serving. Refrigerate any leftovers.Oreo Crust:20 Oreos1/2 c. butter, melted Crush Oreos. Mix with butter. Press into pie pan. Bake 8 to 10 minutes in a preheated 350° oven.
