- sugar - 2/3 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- buttermilk - 1 to
- eggs, beaten - 2 item
- baking powder - 3 tsp
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- shortening - 2 Tbsp
- sifted flour - 3 c
- currants or raisins
How to make irish soda bread:
Resift flour with sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Stir in currants/raisins. Combine beaten eggs, buttermilk and shortening. Stir in dry ingredients, mixing until moist. Turn into greased 9 1/2 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan. Bake at 350° for about 1 hour. Remove from pan; allow to cool before slicing.Recipe categories: Breads, Quick breads, Irish.
