  • flour - 4 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • sugar - 1 c
  • currants - 1 c
  • buttermilk
  • margarine - 3/4 c
  • caraway seed - 1 Tbsp

How to make irish soda bread:

Preheat oven to 350°. Sift first 4 ingredients together. Add margarine to sifted ingredients until mixture looks coarse. Stir in currants and caraway seed. Add buttermilk gradually; mix well. Knead dough until not sticky. Cut dough in half; shape into ball. Place on cookie sheet. Cut a cross on top. Bake until golden.
