Golden baked onions
Ingredients/Components
- milk - 1 c
- melted butter - 1 item
- can cream of chicken soup - 1 item
- medium onions, sliced - 6 item
- salt and freshly ground pepper - 1 item
- 1 stick butter - 1/2 c
- French bread slices - 1 item
- Gruyere or Swiss cheese, grated - 3/4 lb
How to make golden baked onions:
Preheat oven to 350°. Butter a 2-quart shallow oval baking dish. Melt 1/2 cup butter in large skillet over medium heat. Add onions and cook until tender and translucent, stirring frequently, about 15 minutes. Transfer onions to prepared dish. Combine soup, milk, salt and pepper in bowl. Pour over onions. Sprinkle with grated cheese. Dip bread slices in melted butter on one side. Arrange buttered side up over onion mixture to cover completely. Bake until bread is browned, about 30 minutes. Serve hot.
