Fudgy butterscotch bars
Ingredients/Components
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- pkg - 1 oz
- butter or margarine - 1 c
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- chopped nuts - 1/2 c
- flour - 2 c
- butter - 2 Tbsp
- flaked coconut if desired - 1/2 c
- lightly packed brown sugar
- can Borden sweetened condensed milk - 1 item
How to make fudgy butterscotch bars:
Combine chocolate chips, condensed milk and 2 tablespoons of butter. Heat, stirring constantly, in a double boiler, until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth. Set aside.In a heavy saucepan, melt 1 cup of butter or margarine. Remove from heat and add brown sugar and eggs; mix well. Blend in flour, salt, vanilla, nuts and coconut; mix well.
Put 1/2 of dough into lightly greased 9 x 13-inch pan. Spread chocolate mixture over dough. Dot top of chocolate mixture with remaining dough and spread lightly, then swirl with tip of knife. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.
