  • cinnamon
  • eggs - 6 item
  • salt
  • chopped nuts - 3/4 lb
  • flour
  • brown sugar - 3 c
  • nutmeg
  • soda - 3/4 tsp
  • baking powder
  • shortening
  • molasses - 3/4 c
  • cloves - 3/4 tsp
  • seedless raisins
  • candied cherries - 3/4 lb
  • mace - 3/4 tsp
  • strong coffee - 1 c
  • candied pineapple - 3/4 lb
  • dates - 3/4 lb
  • currants - 3/4 lb
  • grated rind and juice of 1 lemon
  • grated rind and juice of 1 orange
  • tart jelly - 3/4 c

How to make fruit cake:

Cream together the shortening and sugar. Beat in eggs and sifted dry ingredients alternately with coffee, jelly and molasses. Blend in fruits. Line two 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pans with heavy wrapping paper and grease. Fill pans almost full. Bake 2 1/2 hours at 300°. Cover with paper last hour until tester comes out clean. Cool. Wrap in wax paper. Store in airtight container.
