Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 Tbsp
- cinnamon - 3/4 tsp
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour
- butter - 1 Tbsp
- nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
- baking powder - 1 Tbsp
- shortening - 1/3 c
- plus 1 Tbsp - 3/4 c
- lemon juice - 1 Tbsp
- egg, beaten - 1 item
- Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal
How to make fried pies:
Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. Combine egg and milk; mix into flour mixture. Stir until flour mixture is moist. Cover and chill for 24 hours.Divide pastry into almost 20 portions. Roll into circles. Put in filling. Cook in oil in a 400° Auto Fry until golden brown. Shake in a bag with powdered sugar or cinnamon and sugar. Makes 20.Filling:1 (8 oz.) pkg. mixed dried fruit1/3 to 1/4 c. sugar3/4 tsp. cinnamon1/2 tsp. nutmeg1 Tbsp. lemon juice1 Tbsp. butter
