Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1 Tbsp
  • self-rising flour - 1 c
  • water to cover - 1 item
  • self-rising cornmeal - 1 c
  • to 6 medium green tomatoes - 4 item

How to make fried green tomatoes:

Core and slice tomatoes about 1/4-inch thick. Put in a large bowl and sprinkle with salt. Cover with water, stirring to mix.

In another bowl, mix flour and cornmeal. Place tomatoes, a slice at a time, into the flour-meal mixture and into a skillet of hot grease. Brown on both sides.

Note: Try tomatoes that are slightly pink, it will have a sweeter taste.
