  • cornstarch - 1/3 c
  • egg yolks - 4 item
  • baking powder
  • shortening - 3/4 c
  • egg whites - 2 item
  • dash of salt - 1 item
  • sifted cake flour
  • orange flavoring - 1 tsp
  • grated fresh coconut - 2 c
  • Custard Filling recipe follows - 1 item
  • Snow Peak Frosting recipe follows - 1 item
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened and smooth

How to make fresh coconut cake:

Combine first 4 ingredients in a heavy saucepan; stir with a wire whisk until well blended. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened and smooth. Stir in flavoring. Chill thoroughly. Stir in coconut.Snow Peak Frosting:1/4 c. light corn syrup2 egg whites dash of salt1 tsp. vanilla Bring syrup to a boil. Combine egg whites and salt in large mixing bowl. Beat egg whites until soft peaks form; continue to beat, slowly adding syrup. Add vanilla; continue beating until stiff peaks form and frosting is thick enough to spread.
