Ingredients/Components
- butter or margarine - 1/4 c
- sugar - 1 c
- egg - 1 item
- diced apples - 2 c
- sifted flour - 1 c
- baking soda
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- cinnamon - 3/4 tsp
- nutmeats - 1/2 c
- or 3 small bananas, broken into chunks - 2 item
- sifted all-purpose flour - 2 c
- baking powder - 1/2 tsp
- soda - 3/4 tsp
- soft shortening - 1/2 c
- eggs, unbeaten - 2 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- buttermilk or sour milk - 1/4 c
How to make fresh apple cake:
In a small mixing bowl, put bananas. Beat with mixer on No. 3 speed until mashed. Measure out 1 cup. Sift flour, baking powder, soda and salt together. Put shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla into a large mixing bowl. Beat on No. 8 speed for 2 1/2 minutes, scraping bowl while beating. Stop mixer. Add buttermilk or sour milk. Add sifted flour mixture alternately with mashed banana while beating at No. 1 speed. Scrape bowl while beating and beat only enough to blend, about 3 minutes. Pour batter into prepared pans.
