sugar - 1 c
eggs - 2 item
vanilla - 1 tsp
salt - 1/2 tsp
brown sugar - 3/4 c
butter
water - 1 c
baking soda - 1 tsp
sifted flour
cream of tartar - 1 tsp
quick oats
grated orange rind - 1 tsp
walnuts - 3/4 c
pitted dates

How to make date filled cookies:

Dough:1 c. butter2 eggs1 tsp. vanilla1 tsp. baking soda1/2 tsp. salt3/4 c. brown sugar1 1/4 c. quick oats3 1/2 c. sifted flour1 tsp. cream of tartar Filling: Combine dates, sugar and water. Boil 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Beat until smooth. Add orange rinds and nuts. Cool.

Dough: Cream butter and sugar well. Add eggs. Beat until fluffy. Add oats, flour and other ingredients. Chill dough several hours.

Roll dough onto floured board. Cut into circles with glass or cookie cutter. Spread 1 teaspoon of filling on each cookie. Fold over and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350° for 8 to 10 minutes.
