  • eggs - 2 item
  • milk - 1 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 1 c
  • baking powder - 1 Tbsp
  • cornmeal - 1 c
  • shortening or oil - 1/4 c
  • sugar if desired - 1/4 c

How to make cornbread:

Mix dry ingredients. Add eggs, milk and shortening. Beat until smooth. Do not overbeat. Pour into greased 8-inch round or square pan or cornbread skillet. Bake at 425° for 35 to 40 minutes. Yields 4 to 6 servings.
