Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/2 c
- vanilla - 1/2 tsp
- milk - 1 c
- salt - 1/4 tsp
- flour
- water - 1/2 c
- egg yolks - 2 item
- baking powder - 3 tsp
- shortening - 1/2 c
- egg whites - 2 item
How to make burnt sugar cake:
Melt 1/2 cup sugar in skillet until golden; add 1/2 cup water and cook until thick. Set aside. Cream together 1/2 cup shortening, 1 1/4 cups sugar, 2 egg yolks and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Mix together 2 1/2 cups flour, 3 teaspoons baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon salt and add to creamed mixture, alternating with 1 cup milk. Add sugar syrup and beat thoroughly. Beat 2 egg whites until stiff and fold into batter. Bake at 350° for 25 minutes. Frost with a brown sugar fudge icing.Recipe categories: Desserts, Cakes, Grains.
