Ingredients/Components

  • large green tomatoes - 10 item
  • cups ground onion - 4 item
  • cups ground cabbage - 4 item
  • red bell peppers - 6 item
  • green bell peppers - 6 item
  • cup salt - 1/2 item
  • cups sugar - 6 item
  • cups water - 2 item
  • cups vinegar - 4 item
  • T celery seed - 1 item
  • T mustard seed - 2 item
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric - 1 item

How to make chow chow:

Grind tomatoes and mix with other ground vegetables. Sprinkle with salt and let stand overnight. Rinse and drain. Combine remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Add vegetables and simmer for 4 minutes. Do not overcook. Pour into sterilized jars and seal. Process in hot water bath (212 degrees) for 5 minutes. Remove jars and complete seal.
