Ingredients/Components

  • hot water - 2 c
  • garlic salt - 2 Tbsp
  • chili powder - 6 tsp
  • ground beef - 4 lb
  • salt to taste - 1 item
  • large onion, chopped - 1 item
  • ground oregano - 1 tsp
  • canned tomatoes - 2 qt
  • sugar to taste - 1 item

How to make chili:

Brown beef in pan. Drain grease. Add onion, oregano, garlic salt and chili powder. Mix well. Add tomatoes, water and salt. Bring to a boil. Constantly skim off grease. Lower temperature and continue cooking until chili reaches desired thickness. Add sugar to taste, if desired.

I usually refrigerate overnight and let grease congeal on top. Then I remove all grease that has hardened on top, reducing as much fat as possible. We eat this as a meal or I freeze in small containers for use with hot dogs and hamburgers.
